The Town of Golden is please to announce our community tennis courts will be getting a much-needed upgrade this month!

Thanks to Columbia Basin Trust’s Recreation Infrastructure Grants, 42 projects around the region are getting over $3.5 million in support – with Golden being awarded $31,000. These funds will be used to upgrade three tennis court playing surfaces to improve safety and encourage continued use of the facility by residents and visitors.

“The project includes filling cracks and relevelling the surface to reduce or eliminate surface water ponding, plus applying an enhanced non-slip surface with vibrant new colour,” says Mayor Ron Oszust. “Our goal is to make the tennis courts safer and more enjoyable, extending their life while enticing people to use them more often.”

“Our recreation infrastructure grants support projects that help people to live more active, healthy lifestyles,” says Kindy Gosal, Columbia Basin Trust Director of Special Initiatives. “We are pleased to support the Golden tennis courts and all the community members who use it.”

The work is expected to be completed before the end of July, weather permitting. Tomco Sports Systems will undertake the project which is expected to take 3-4 days. Direction has also been provided to the contractor to incorporate Pickle Ball line work during the court resurfacing project.  According to the contractor recommendation, the colour scheme will be light blue line work on a dark blue playing pad.

“Upgrading the tennis courts has long been on our radar and we are thrilled with the funding from the Trust that will finally make it happen,” says Manager of Recreation Services Jordan Petrovics. “We have a passionate group of regular users that will benefit from this project and we hope to attract new users to this great community feature.”
