Notice of Public Hearing: Short Term Rentals Print Article Font Size

What is proposed?

The purpose of these bylaws are to modernize the language around vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts (B&B) and short term rentals (STR).

The zoning amendment bylaw proposes to update SectionIMG_0473.jpg 9 Specific Use Regulations including home based business, secondary residential dwellings, and primarily to introduce to residential areas (R1, R1S R1D, R2, R2A, C5 zones) the use of short term rental (commercial rental of a dwelling unit to the traveling public – ex. secondary suite).  A STR in residential areas can only occur with a permanent resident operating and occupying a dwelling unit on the lot generally and during the rental.  A property with a detached secondary residential dwelling cannot be utilized for a B&B or STR. Dwelling unit and STR are also proposed to be added to the C4 and C6 zones.

The regulations outline a number of requirements for B&B and STRs such as licensing fees, marketing, signage, safety issues, having snow cleared from onsite parking stalls and registering to collect taxes with the Province or the online platform.
